“Who better to judge than two Libras in search of Justice?”

written by the Moon Houston

Libros poster. Vico, covering their eyes in a “justice is blind” sort of way. Petey, behind Vico, covering their chest in a “nipples are the windows to the soul” sort of way.

These Libros need no introduction but, order in my court room!, they’re gonna get one! You know em. You love em. You don’t know if you wanna be em or you wanna be with em. We’ve all been there. When asked who they were, all they sent me was the link to their IMDb’s. These guys mean business!

First off (because I’m going in alphabetical order), you know the Honorable Judge Petey Gibson. I’ve been calling him producer papa. He’s everywhere! You’ve seen of him on tv (Alert: Missing Persons Unit, Broad City, Grace & Frankie, Transparent), you’ve seen him in the theater (American Repertory Theatre for Becoming A Man and La Jolla Playhouse for All The Men Who've Frightened Me), and on top of all that, you’ve seen him produce! “Celebration Theatre's TRANS LINEAGE project, and THEM FATALE, LA's longest-running Drag King show (a mutual aid show that's raised over $40K to date for local queer and trans organizations).” (There’s a Them Fatale event coming up soon, I hope to see you there!) You’re also seeing shows (yes, plural) with the Joy Who Lived, and Gibson has put his blood, sweat, tears, and a secret mystery fluid in all of the work behind every show! (Petey didn’t want me to reveal it but I’ll tell you what the secret fluid is. It’s genderfluid.) Truly, what doesn’t he do? “Being back for year two of Joy Who Lived is incredible - I'm so happy you're here.” On top of all that, he’s selfless. Actor, comedian, producer, community organizer with a heart of gold. Save some cool for the rest of us.

And next up, you know  the Honorable Judge Vico Ortiz. I’ve been calling them... actually it might not be appropriate for me to say. “An award winning Puerto Rican multidisciplinary artist,” the Joy Who Lived really is giving you some of the best art the world has ever seen! As mentioned, just look at their IMDb, almost as long as a CVS receipt. (Our Flag Means Death, Sex Lives of College Girls, Fionna and Cake, Harley Quinn, Craig Before the Creek, Elder Scrolls). Ortiz also performs as Vico Suave “in as many Them Fatale shows as their travel schedule allows.” Ortiz is selling out shows coast to coast! (Honestly, you don’t even need me to convince you to buy a ticket, you already bought the ticket, you already love the Libros, at this point I’m just doing the article for me, because I love them too and they’re both awesome and I wanted to challenge myself with writing these, but it’s not much of a challenge since I have such great material to work with! So. Um. Yeah. Let me get back on track.) What you may not know is Ortiz is a writer too! They’re writing a book, and you can find them on Substack “for audio affirmations, queer book club, polyamorous musings, and behind-the-scenes processes of an artist in Los Angeles.”

I do also have to mention again that they’re Puerto Rican. It’s legally required for you to show love for your Puerto Rican primes. (That’s in Spanish, I just didn’t wanna italicize it.)

So what do you get when you combine “two very hot, sexy, charming and healed (yes fully healed)” Libra bros in a friendship that “has evolved over the years morphing into what they like to call a platonic erotic friendship”? The Libros, of course! Join them as they “take a night off from being perfect to lean into their judgemental dark side. With the help of an audience equipped with red and green flags, the Libros shamelessly judge 5 comedian "contestants" on their life choices, past behaviors, and - of course - their signs. Find out who gets Redeemed and who gets Judgement Gayed.” I’m a Libra moon, thank God, so I’m pretty much perfect and wouldn’t be in the situation of being judged but it’ll be fun to judge other heathens! (I can admit I’m pretty much perfect, not perfect like the Libros. Maybe that’ll change after the show. Maybe they’ll rub off on me! (Come on, you had to have seen that coming. (That too!)))

The show came into being because “these two Libras/LIBROS have been friends since Petey was a lesbian potato and Vico had horse hair. [...] When they found out they were Libras, sparks flew. After years of processing and holding space for all their past relationship issues (yikes) they are now fully healed and have grown into two very emotionally attuned hotties. Between Petey's background in Comedy and Drag and Vico's "yes and" energy, they both realized they could be the perfect hosts for a night of unhinged judgement. And who better to judge than two Libras in search of Justice? It'll be a night of oversharing, raucous choices, green flags, red flags... beige flags? And possibly... Redemption!”

Gibson & Ortiz recommend their show for people who enjoy:

  • game shows

  • story times

  • queer podcasts

  • Esther Perel

  • stand up

  • laughter

  • joy

  • judging people loudly

  • trans people being annoyingly hot on stage

  • chaotic good energy

And last but not least, when asked the best part about being trans the Libros said, “We can do no wrong.” Case dismissed!

Libros will be at the Hudson Theater on Sunday, April 5, 2026, showtime 7:30 pm. Tickets available at https://joywholived.com/events/libros.
