Code of Conduct
THE JOY WHO LIVED is a safe and brave space for its producers, performers and audiences. Feelings of discomfort are understandable, but racism, sexism, transphobia (including transmisogyny), homophobia, ableism are not. All Festival Participants are responsible for adhering to these policies. Producers sign additional community agreements in order to bring a show to the Festival.
Diversity | We are dedicated to a festival that emphasizes diversity in all its forms and platforming artists who share different experiences. Together, we create a predominantly trans and gender nonconforming space and welcome all trans folks with their diverse array of intersecting identities, including race, ability, class, and background.
Pronouns | We take note of the names and pronouns of others, and if we happen to get them wrong we say thank you for the correction, and move on.
Masks and COVID safety | We want to make the Joy Who Lived festival accessible to everyone, and that means protecting our immune-compromised friends from COVID, the flu, and anything else that could make us sick. We require masks for audiences and anyone in shared areas at all shows, and strongly encourage participants to create a COVID safety protocol for individual show rehearsals and events.
Arbitration | The festival provides a third party whom you can anonymously contact with concerns about any festival staff, volunteers, and show contacts via this anonymous reporting form. It is important that everyone involved in the festival is able to work in an environment free from harassment and discrimination.
