“I don’t fuck around when it comes to coziness.”

written by the Moon Houston

As the title states, Danielle “Dani” Schindler has always wanted to create something where people felt safe and sound, warm and welcome, cozy and comfortable. “My whole life, comedy was what I used to feel better; there wasn't anything like it that could help me feel happy in tough times (or normal times!). I have always wanted to provide that feeling to others; it's always been my favorite thing in the world. I believe everyone (trans people especially) deserves to feel joy, peace, and safety in their lives. I want to make that happen for a whole audience.”

Schindler says her life “has done a complete 180” in the past few years; she’s here in the big city trying to achieve her big dreams, and we’re so happy to have her part of the Joy Who Lived! “I spent my first 30 years in the closet all Mormon'ed out, had quite a realization, and now here we are mid transition. I'm still getting used to it all, and it's all been very scary but also by far the very best decision I have ever made.”

So what is Yes More Missus Nice Guy about? I’ll just let her tell you: “The show is a fully trans comedy variety show! It's not the easiest time to be trans in the US and the world at large. It can be scary and mean out there for us. The most solace I have found in these times has come from loving community. I wanted to create a show to act as a very safe and warm space where we can all forget about the outside world for a half hour. To the max even. [...] The content of the show will be entirely comedy, but with wholesomeness and warm fuzzies in every act. And the acts themselves are astounding. [...] The idea stemmed from the realization I had about how helpful community, warmth, and showing love and understanding to each other, has been essential. I wanted to harness that and make the extreme version of that feeling into a show.”

I definitely got the warm fuzzies reading her responses. When asked about the best thing about being trans, Schindler says, “omg basically everything! But the thing I love most is that for the first time in my life, I finally love myself. Being transgender is beautiful. The downsides are brutal, but the upsides are what make life worth living. I also believe our community is full of some of the most resilient people on earth. At least personally, my large capacity for love and joy, my strength to withstand hardship didn't exist before now. I see those qualities reflected back each time I see another trans person. It is so important to be able to feel like yourself, probably even essential. Being trans is beautiful and so meaningful. It is life changing and life saving. Transition is a miracle, and I've never loved life more.”

I hope everyone reading this and everyone in attendance feels the love and joy Dani feels being her best self. Let’s all give it a try! What’s the worst that could happen? You enjoy another beautiful day in your beautiful life on this beautiful planet? Ah!

Schindler recommends her show for people who:

  • like comedy in general

  • like juice, snacks, and stuffed animals

    • everyone in attendance will receive one of each!

    • especially “a guy made of cactus spikes who lives on a motorcycle and eats rusty screws for breakfast”

and,

  • are into letting your guard down and being yourself!
